Gun Camera Photo Fraud

Fraud in the Israel Defense Forces Histroy Report of 1982

By Ken Halliwell (December 10, 2004)

In 1982, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) History Department, Research and Instruction Branch, produced a comprehensive report about the June 1967 IDF attack on USS Liberty, self-styled as the official Israeli version of the facts. The report is entitled "The Attack on the 'Liberty' Incident."

Within the IDF History Report, on page 18, there are two gun camera photos with a description that claims the photos show USS Liberty under attack and identifies key features on the ship. These "gun camera" images are of extremely poor quality. (If a higher quality copy of the report can be found, it will be substituted for the current low quality copy, and this analysis will be updated accordingly.) Below is an image of the gun camera photos contained within the report.

The Hebrew version of the report is of slightly better quality.

Fortunately, better copies of the IDF History Report gun camera photos exist. In 1987, Thames Ltd. released a film entitled "Attack on the Liberty." Within this film there are two sets of gun camera photos. One set is clearly the same photos as shown in the IDF History Report. The other set is clearly the same photos that appear in A. Jay Cristol's book, The Liberty Incident. The higher quality IDF/Thames look-a-like gun camera photos are shown below.

Here is a comparison of one of these gun camera photos with a known photo of USS Liberty:

If you study the IDF/Thames gun camera photos carefully and objectively, you should soon realize that the ship shown in the IDF/Thames "gun camera" photos is not the USS Liberty. You should see many key features missing or different on the IDF/Thames ship when compared to USS Liberty.

Missing features and differences (see image below):

Without doubt, the "gun camera" photos in the IDF History Report do not show USS Liberty -- they are frauds.
