Defenders of the Position of the Israeli Government
A number of individuals have taken up the defense of Israel with respect to accountability for the attack on USS Liberty and its consequences. Whether in the employ of the government of Israel, or driven by some other motivation, without exception these individuals have used vicious ad hominem personal attacks on Liberty survivors and their supporters as their primary line of defense (and offense, in some cases).
To put the mindset of the defenders of the Israeli cause into perspective, consider the following representative sample of comments offered by some of the more active individuals.
Three instances of a particular expletive have been edited [gray brackets]. Other than that, all indented text is word for word. A word of caution, however: many people, veterans in particular, may find the following statements highly offensive.

These defenders of the Israeli cause are so active in making vicious ad hominem personal attacks on Liberty survivors that they get their own pages: Engel, Cristol, Weeks.

It was an accident; the attack was a case of friendly fire not unlike other such incidents; those who say otherwise do so only because they wish to hurt Israel and to demean Jews and the Jewish people; they associate with crackpots and known anti-Semites; those who tell this story are in league with holocaust deniers and other crackpots; Liberty was mistaken for a rusted-out Egyptian horse transport a fraction of her size then in Alexandria waiting to be scrapped, all unknown to the Israeli Navy or Israeli military intellignece which still regarded the horse transport as a dangerous foe; Liberty was spying on Israel; Liberty flew no flag and refused to identify herself when asked; Liberty attempted to flee when spotted; "Friendly fire" accidents are common in wartime; this was not unlike the accidental shootdown of an Iranian civilian airbus by a US Navy ship; Israel apologized and paid millions in damages; the story told by Liberty survivors "has been discredited by the facts; Israel paid damages; the matter is closed.

As a trained military man, please explain to me how you justify the Liberty providing strategic intelligence to Egypt during a time of war?
Additionally, your lies about Israel stealing land and depriving people of basic necessities illustrates the embedded anti-Jewish attitude of MOST U.S. military professionals.
